Diagnostic Care for Your Pet
Accurate diagnostics help our veterinarians better understand your pet’s health and choose the right treatment plan. At Ark Animal Hospital in Millbrook, AL, we offer diagnostic services for dogs and cats, including radiology, on-site laboratory testing, bloodwork, blood glucose testing, specialty lab testing, and ultrasound imaging to evaluate injuries, internal organs, dental concerns, and other health conditions.
Preventive Care & Diagnostic Services
Radiology
X-rays are a common imaging tool used to examine your pet’s skeletal system (i.e., fractures), internal organs and internal systems. This non-invasive procedure allows our veterinarians to see what is going on within your pet’s body. X-rays are used to:
- To find foreign objects or materials within the body that may have been ingested
- To diagnose fractures, bone and/or joint abnormalities, and various injuries
- To screen for abnormalities within the heart, lungs, urinary, and digestive organs
- To inspect teeth for bone loss, fractures, and dental diseases
- To screen for some types of cancer
On-Site Laboratory
We have an advanced laboratory on site at our hospital. At the Ark, we have a wide variety of equipment at our disposal. In some cases, the vet may need to test a sample of blood for Liver or Kidney abnormalities, among other things. We can run a blood glucose test to see if the blood sugar level of your pet is at the correct levels. Specialty Blood Tests: Sometimes the vet may need to send a sample of your pet’s blood to the specialists at Auburn to identify rare conditions, or to do in-depth profiles for elderly patients.
Ultrasound
This is a non-invasive and pain-free imaging device that allows us to see what is going on within the internal organs of the body. Real-time results are received by sound waves traveling into the body thus returning 3-dimensional images of the internal organs. These high-definition images allow our veterinarians to see how the organs are functioning and how the blood of your dog or cat is flowing during the time of the ultrasound. The vet will use an ultrasound machine to test for abnormalities such as intestinal blockages or kidney stones.
